THOU SHALT REMEMBER
Near this spot on September 22nd, 1557 JOHN NOYES suffered martyrdom at the stake.
Among his last words were,—
“Fear not them that kill the body but fear Him that can kill body and soul and cast them into everlasting fire.”
“Blessed be the time that ever I was born to come to this.”
“They say they can make a God of a piece of bread, believe them not. Good people bear witness that I do believe to be saved by the merits of Jesus and not my own deeds.”
“The righteous shall be held in everlasting remembrance.” Psalm 112. 6.
(Copied from inscription on tablet fixed to a chapel and facing the main
road at Laxfield).
