TO A VALUED AND AGED FRIEND IN THE MINISTRY

Dear Old Friend,

We both must send you a short word to wish for you the very best, something like dear old Simeon had when he took the infant Child in his arms and blessed God, and wished to depart in peace.

Happy way to die that; with Christ in the arms of a real living faith enjoyed as one’s own Saviour.

Plenty now seem to have a sort of religion that pleases them, but we do need one that will be safe for us, and then we shall not sink into a richly deserved hell.

All we have here short of hell is mercy to us.

Time is short for you and us now, and we cannot feel happy at the state of places around us, but that place and state we hope to enter upon soon will be far better than we ever conceived in our minds. Eternal Weight of Glory! All here is vanity.
