A BROTHER BELOVED

QUESTIONS

“What is this that thou hast done, (Gen. 3,13)

“Eve, the mother of all living?”.

Down to me the curse has run, (Ps. 51, 5)

Death from thy one act receiving.

Only God could comprehend

All the horrors now before thee,

And in love He did intend, (Gen. 3,21)

By His dying, to restore thee.

“Whence art thou, and whither bound?”. (Gen. 16,8)

Hagar heard the kindly query,

As she gazed the desert round,

Lost and hopeless, lone and weary.

Lord, I am a wandering sheep, (Is. 53, 6)

Lost my home through disobeying; (Gen. 3,24)

Call me, guide me, feed and keep,

Or I’ll into hell be straying.

“Wisdom, where shall it be found?, (Job 28, 12)

“Where the place of understanding?”.

Job appears on wisdom’s ground,

Knows ’tis not at his commanding.

Make me. Lord, my folly grieve,

Ask for wisdom pure from heaven; (Jas. 3, 17.1,5)

“Christ is worthy to receive (Rev. 5,12)

“Wisdom”, and by Him ’tis given.

“How shall man be just with God?”. (Job 9,2. 25,4)

Only through the Mediator. (Rom. 5,1)

See, His pacifying blood (Eph. 2,14 Mic 5,5)

Satisfies our stern Creator.

Though there’s none more vile than I,

Could I view Him for me dying,

“Black, but comely, now”, I’d cry. (Can. 1, 5. 4, 7.)

“Thou’rt all fair” He’d smile, replying.

“To be saved, what must I do?”. (Acts 16, 30.)

Hear the jailor’s loud appealing;

He who tortured, beat and slew,

Now evinces tender feeling.

Blessed Spirit from on high,

Visit once again this nation,

Put in many a heart the cry

For this vital information!

“Who but God can sins forgive?”. (Mk. 2, 7.)

Romish claims are here refuted; (1. Jn. 1, 9.)

Godhead’s own prerogative (Is. 48, 11. Ps. 130, 4.)

Never was to man deputed. (Dan. 9, 9. Mat. 6, 12.)

Jesus’ Godhead here is proved. (Mat. 9, 6.)

(Even by the Jews who hate Him),

And the souls by Jesus loved,

For forgiveness all await Him. (Gen. 49, 18.)

“Who is this” the prophet cried. (Is. 63.)

“Coming from the field of Edom?”.

He who for His people died,

Paid the ransom for their freedom. (Matt. 20, 28.)

All the curse He bore away,

Death by His own death defeated,

And the resurrection day

Proved salvation’s work completed.

“If the Lord be on our side, (Rom. 8, 31.)

“Who then can be our undoing?”.

Though our foes have sorely tried,

Faint are we, but still pursuing. (Judges 8, 4.)

Well may Israel now declare, (Ps. 124.)

Twas because our God was for us,

That we in the triumph share. (Rev. 7, 10, 12.)

“Unto Him” shall be our chorus. (Rev. 1, 5.)

“What are these arrayed in white? (Rev. 7, 13.)

“Whence came they to this fair heaven?”.

Out of sore affliction’s fight, (Heb. 10, 32.)

Washed, and all their crimes forgiven.

John beheld them with their God,

Paul was given a glimpse before him, (2 Cor. 12, 2.)

“God with us” marked out the road (Jn. 14, 2.)

To that place where all adore Him.

In the Scriptures Christ we see,

As the Answer to all questions.

(May He clear the clouds in me,

Caused by unbelief’s suggestions).

Of Him came Creation vast, (Rom. 11, 36.)

Through Him flows all prayer and blessing.

To Him all shall come at last,

Glory to His name confessing!
