THE GOSPEL LIGHT
A light shines in the darkened skies,
An angel speaks, an infant cries,
Lo, He, who lies in cattle stall
Is King, Creator, Lord of all.
This Child holds all things in His hands
His word all powers and things commands;
He who in Mary’s arms is found
Is God, who never can be bound.
Hid from unsympathetic eyes,
Unseen by noble, great and wise,
This new-born Babe, Ancient of Days
All things controls, while He obeys.
Earth had not seen such babe before,
Our Prophet, Priest and Counsellor.
Grace, mercy, love in Him combine,
In Him Divine perfections shine.
Of heavens He is the fadeless Sun,
The sinner’s hope, the holy One.
Almighty God and perfect Man,
He has fulfilled salvation’s plan.
He bore the great Redeemer’s name,
And died upon a cross of shame;
Salvation’s mighty work is done
By Him alone. God’s holy Son.
To Him shall all the glory be,
Whose blood sets guilty sinners free;
Now shines the Gospel’s glorious Light,
Love’s message, changeless, infinite.
