CHRIST EVER LIVES
Christ came to earth, two thousand years have passed
Since He appeared who will all time outlast;
The Lord of all, in human form was found,
God was in Christ, O mystery profound.
He who the holiest heights of heaven adorned,
As man, upon this sinful earth was scorned;
Nor did the great and wise Him recognise;
They gazed, but with dark sin-beclouded eyes.
Yet over all the world His name transcends
All other names, and gloriously extends
Its gracious influence over human lives;
Salvation from His life and death derives.
No other name can ever match this name
In loveliness, or equal it in fame;
It shines in earth’s dark sky, and calms our fears
And sounds like heavenly music in our ears.
It is the name of Him who died in pain
To bring to sinners lost eternal gain;
His precious blood was shed to set us free
Two thousand years ago at Calvary.
Still the rich virtue of that blood avails,
And over all the powers of sin prevails,
Not only for two thousand passing years,
But far beyond eternity’s frontiers.
