THE GREAT EMPLOYMENT

A letter from a minister to a friend who had just begun to preach.

Dear .

I think you will be getting many letters in these days, and if I know anything you are feeling very much the need of the Lord in knowing how to deal with them: and find your own soul is more tossed about than even was expected. Well, the Lord who began will carry on. Having nothing, you will prove to possess all things in Him.

The Lord has found you a trade where there are no masters, all are apprentices; there are no reserves in stock, but all the wealth of heaven for their supply; all the time worked is overtime but we do not yet think we have begun; there is no retirement, but infinite insurance, for we cannot die till our task is done. And the Master, our gracious Employer although knowing every corner of our hearts, every failure, every shortcoming, is pleased to use the worst of tools to accomplish the best of all objects, to graciously work in the hearts of sinners to the lasting glory of His own dear Name; and He puts that note in our wallet (Isa. 49. 4) for the demands of the journey.

Now, the Lord enable you to speak the truth in love, rightly divide the word of truth, and bless you in heart and home and in the house of God.

Our Christian love to you both and the Lord bless the little ones also.

Yours by grace alone through Christ Jesus.
