How sad it is to see the contentions which are going on in the churches: what an evidence is this of the low state of divine life! for many of these divisions turn upon points of absolutely little or no importance. How obstinate and unyielding men are on such points as a pew or time of service, when they would yield the most vital doctrines into the hands of enemies. I would desire to be firm in truth, and yet in such matters as meats and drinks not to quarrel and contend with Christian brethren.
