Psalm 34. 8
“THE LORD IS GOOD”
Psalm 34. 8.
Be still, my soul, be of good cheer;
“The LORD is good,” I need not fear.
Hope thou in God, His Word is true;
“The LORD is good,” He’ll help me through.
A wayward heart, a wandering mind,
A stubborn will, I daily find;
Inconstant, wilful, weak and wild—
Truly a sinful, erring child.
And can I, dare I, hope to prove
“The LORD is good”—a God of love?
I prove it true through Jesus’ blood—
At Calvary’s cross, “The LORD is good.”
Mark well, my soul, all through life’s road
A faithful and unchanging God;
His mercies tell. His helps record;
“The LORD is good”—praise ye the LORD.
My daily strength, my daily needs;
(Tis “day by day” the promise reads;)
My table spread with daily food,
The truth unfolds, “The LORD is good.”
Why should I fear if troubles press,
If Satan tempt, if sin distress?
“The LORD is good!” I’ll seek His face;
He’ll help me at the Throne of grace.
Be still, my soul. If toil and pain
Bestrew my path, shall I complain?
No, no, my soul, my tongue shall tell ‘
The LORD is good,” I’m out of hell.
When fiery trials my faith shall test,
Still would I say, “The LORD knows best;”
IÂ’ll bow beneath my Father’s rod,
And still maintain “The LORD is good.”
My future path, why should I fear?
Why should I meet tomorrow’s care?
When all these things by faith are viewed,
This answers all, “The LORD is good.”
O blessed truth, “The LORD is good,”
I would this fact proclaim abroad;
Be this my chief, my earnest care,
The truth to preach, the cross to bear.
And when at length my weary head
Is on a dying pillow laid,
O may I with my latest breath,
“The LORD is good” proclaim in death.
Then in the realms beyond the sky,
Around Jehovah’s throne on high,
I’ll sing with all the ransomed throng—
“The LORD is good” shall be my song.
