Whate’er the future holds for me,
Help me, O Lord, to look to Thee,
That what the coming months may bring,
I may of all Thy mercies sing.
For looking back on past events,
I trace Thy hand in kindness lent,
To help me through my times of need,
Proving a “Present Help” indeed.
My times are in Thy hand I know,
For Thy Good Spirit taught me so
When in the weary hours of pain –
Yet O, dear Lord, I would remain
A few more years with those I love –
Although my thoughts are oft above.
Teach me to leave my case with Thee,
Knowing Thou wilt remember me,
Where’re the fall of all shall surely come,
Help me to say, “Thy Will be done.”
Written after a long and serious illness.
